Hard drives fail. It is never a matter of "if", but simply a matter of "when". And, when a hard drives fails, it is usually very sudden. Your computer can be working fine when you turn it off Monday evening, but when you turn it on Tuesday morning, you get a "no operating system found" error message on the screen. In fact, every form of data storage in use in computers today can fail - USB drives, CD's and DVD's, Floppy disks, removable hard drives, etc. And, they all have a wide variety of ways that they can fail! This alone should be enough reason to convince anyone to make backup copies of their data. However, the fact is that sometimes that simply doesn't happen. So, when you have lost data, the second thing you should do is call The Computer Shed. (For the first thing that you should do, keep reading.)
Maybe you have done something as simple as deleted a folder full of important documents, or maybe you have lost the password to some important documents. Or perhaps you dropped your laptop, and it will no longer power up. Is the data on the hard drive lost forever? Not necessarily! Even something as dreaded as the "no operating system found" error may not be as disastrous as it sounds. Chances are good that only a small part of the hard drive is damaged and therefore the part of the hard drive containing your important files is still readable with the right equipment.
The Computer Shed has that equipment! We are not talking about the simple software tools that can be downloaded from the Internet. No, we are talking about thousands of dollars worth of specialized hardware and software designed for one purpose: recovering your data. For those rare cases when the tools we have are not enough, we have partnered with Seagate Technologies to provide the ultimate in clean-room hard drive disassembly and data recovery.
(A word of knowledge: if you have just deleted a file, folder, or more and suddenly realize that you shouldn't have, the absolute, number-one, first thing to do is to turn the computer off and leave it off. Every minute that you continue to use the computer after the fact lowers the chances of recovering the files. Every time you turn the computer back on or reboot it also lowers the chances of recovery. So, if you've just made a boo-boo, turn it off! Then, call The Computer Shed!)
