No matter what brand of computer you use, no matter what operating system you run, no matter what applications you have installed, it's critical that you stay current with the software updates available for your computers.

Tell Yourself: “Do NOT click on ANYTHING that pops up when browsing the Internet!”
In the last few months there has been a rash of new malware on the Internet. From Wikipedia: “Malware, a portmanteau from the words malicious and software, is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent.” Computer viruses are a type of malware and anti-virus software is typically designed to deal only with viruses. Web pop-ups, however, are typically not flagged by anti-virus software.

In my last article I talked about the vital importance of having backups. But, are backups really enough? If keeping your business up and running during a disaster is important to you, then the answer is NO!

Hard drives are everywhere. Every desktop, laptop, and server computer in your company. Likely your phone system, point-of-sale system, automation control system, and even your security system all contain hard drives. Add personal electronic devices into the mix such as DVR's, iPods, camcorders, game systems, etc., and you start to get the idea that hard drives are as common as light bulbs.
